Let me start this post out with the disclaimer that- I AM NOT a seamstress.  I took sewing in 8th grade.  I think I might have scored  a C .  The cupcake pillow I made was nothing to write home about.  I do however like to sew.  I don’t know how to work with patterns so I kind of create as I go.

I found the materials used to make this in the clearance  bin at Joannes and I picked up a 1/2 yard of each.  When I bought it I had no clue what I was making but I knew I liked them together.  A few days later I went to Belk and found a bunch of t-shirts on sale.  Wahoo, I love a good sale.   When I got home I realized they were a perfect match.  Now, if you are anything like me and you have something that randomly works like this your mind starts racing and you wonder what you can create.  My first thought was an applique on the t-shirt.  Maybe a cute hootie owl or a dancing bird would be fun.  After looking at the materials all together, neither one of those seem to work.

Final layering of fabric
Final layering of fabric
I started layering the fabrics.  I kept arranging and rearranging and this is what I came up with.  Now in normal Niki fashion, I could not stop there.  I had to keep adding more …and this my friends is this how my attempt at making a fun dress went from a size 2t to a 5.  Hopefully she will take after her father and be a tall girl and not have to wait  3 years to wear the dress.  After the layers became ruffles on the dress I decided it needed a bit more.  So I took a pencil and drew a heart on it.  First I stated with SeaGlass Blue buttons.  I thought they looked pretty awesome even though my heart was slightly lopsided. Then when I went to sew them on I found the Avacodo buttons and had to go with them.  I thought hey provided more contrast.    Which buttons do you like best?
